How much do truck dispatchers charge?
Most truck dispatch services charge a percentage of each load's gross revenue. For owner-operators and small fleets that commonly lands between 5% and 10%, and some services offer flat weekly or monthly fees instead. The right choice depends on how many trucks you run and how much work you want handled.
Percentage of gross vs. flat fee
A percentage scales with your revenue, and the dispatcher only earns when you do. A flat fee makes costs predictable and can be cheaper for high-grossing trucks, but check what it includes, because some skip paperwork or book fewer loads.
A worked example
A truck grossing $12,000 in a month pays $600 at 5%, $840 at 7% and $1,200 at 10%. The gap between 5% and 10% is $7,200 a year for one truck, so compare what each percentage actually covers.
What a fair fee should include
Load booking, rate negotiation, rate confirmations, invoicing and factoring submissions, broker setup, and support when a load goes wrong. A low fee that leaves you doing the paperwork is not always cheaper.
Red flags
Setup fees before any load is booked, long lock-in contracts, dispatchers who book without your approval, and anyone who guarantees rates or income. Always read the service agreement.
